Chamber Committees
 

Ambassadors

Purpose

  • Help greet attendees at events and assist with check-in. Welcome new members, help connect with existing members. Encourage and recruit others to attend events and volunteer with Chamber fundraisers.

Composition

  • The Ambassadors committee will consist of no more than 25 members at one time. Membership will be encouraged from the entire membership with attention paid to representation from various-sized companies. 

Events

Purpose

  • Plans chamber events and helps orchestrate details.

Composition

  • The Events committee will consist of no more than six members at one time. 
  • The Special Events Committee will include at least one current Chamber Board of Directors member.
  • Other members will be actively recruited by chamber staff to represent a variety of chamber member types. 

Authority

  • Works directly with staff to make final decisions regarding all aspects of events.

Business Issues

Purpose

  • Develops the Chamber’s annual policy agenda for board approval.
  • Makes recommendations to the Board of Directors on issues brought by members and those that develop throughout the year requiring chamber response. 

Composition

  • The Business Issues committee will consist of no more than 12 members at one time.
  • Efforts will be made to ensure representation on the committee of a variety of business types. 
  • The Board Chair will approve the committee’s composition. 
  • The President of the Chamber will serve as a voting member of the committee.
  • No less than three current members of the Board of Directors will serve on the committee. 
  • A member of the Board of Directors will serve as chair.
  • Terms will be one year. 
  • Active participation by members of the committee will be expected, or replacements found.
  • Committee members will be expected to sign the chamber’s conflict of interest and code of ethics policies.

Activity

  • The committee will conduct business at monthly meetings. 

Authority

  • Recommends chamber action on local issues of business concern to the Board of Directors. 
  • Business of the committee and voting may be conducted electronically.  Recommendations to the Board of Directors will be made based on a simply majority vote of the committee. 

Civic Pride

Purpose

  • Assist chamber staff with the organization, promotion, sponsorship solicitation and recipient selection for the Chamber’s annual awards and awards’ luncheon.

Composition

  • The Civic Pride committee will consist of no more than 10 members at one time.
  • The President of the chamber will serve as a voting member of the committee.
  • No less than three current members of the Board of Directors will serve on the committee.
  • A member of the Board of Directors will serve as chair. 
  • Terms will be two years and members may serve three two-year terms for a maximum of six years. 
  • A member of the Carmel Department of Community services will serve as a voting member of the committee.

Authority

  • Select recipients for the Chamber’s awards.  

Finance

Purpose

  • Reviews and makes recommendation on the Chamber’s annual budget and financial reporting.

Composition

  • Per Chamber Bylaws, committee will consist of the Board Chair, the Chair-Elect, the Treasurer, the President and one additional Chamber member selected by the first four.

Authority

  • Make all recommendations regarding Chamber budget and send to Board for final approval.

Golf

Purpose

  • Assist chamber staff in the planning of the chamber’s annual golf outing. 

Composition

  • The Golf Committee will consist of no more than 10 people.
  • The President will serve as a voting member of the committee.
  • A member of the Board of Directors will serve as chair.
  • No less than two members of the Board of Directors will serve on the committee. 

Authority

  • Make decisions regarding all aspects of events.
  • Solicit sponsorship and foursomes for the event.
Membership

Purpose

  • Review member benefits and costs for membership and events.
  • Assist staff in the development of potential new member programs.
  • Participate in retention program through monthly phone calls.
  • Provide leads for new members to staff. 

Composition

  • The membership committee will consist of no more than 10 members at a time.
  • A member of the Board of Directors will serve as chair. 
  • No less than two members of the Board of Directors will serve on the committee.
  • Terms will be for one year.  Maximum term is three consecutive years. 
  • One representative per company and two representatives per industry category may be on the committee at the same time.  

Authority

  • Make recommendations on potential member event organization, potential events, and potential member benefits to staff for consideration and implementation.
  • Make recommendations on membership pricing for consideration and passage by the Board of Directors.
