Government

Carmel is governed by a mayor, seven city council members, a clerk/treasurer and a judge, all of whom are elected. The mayor administers the city with the help of a Board of Public Works, composed of three members - the mayor and two of his appointments - whose major function is to ensure police and fire protection, along with street, municipal water and sewer operations.
