Education

The Carmel community is committed to excellence and nowhere is it seen more than in its strong support for education and academic achievement from early childhood to adult learning.

With an exceptional public school system that enrolls more than 15,300 students, Carmel Clay Schools has earned district accreditation by AdvancED, the largest and most rigorous school accreditation organization in the United States. The district has one high school, three middle schools and 11 elementary schools, each with a gifted and talented program.

Schools in the district have been repeatedly named Four Star Schools by the Indiana Department of Education, and students consistently earn ISTEP scores that are among the state’s best and distinction as National Merit Semifinalists. Nearly half of Carmel High School students receive an Academic Honors Diploma, and the number continues to rise. Carmel Clay Schools also excel in extracurricular activities, bringing home awards in boys and girls athletics, music, science, student newspaper, music and more.

Education starts early with choices in the Carmel and surrounding area for preK and early childhood development, ranging from preschools to child learning and daycare centers. Excellent private and parochial schools in Carmel, Hamilton County and Indianapolis offer alternatives to public schools for K-12 education. Opportunities for post-secondary learning abound in the area with selections of universities and community colleges focusing on high school graduates, adult learners and advanced degree and masters programs.
