Miss American 2009 to Appear in CarmelFest Parade

Katie Stam, Miss America 2009, will be featured as a celebrity guest in the 2010 St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana Parade at CarmelFest.  According to Peggy Powell, the Director of the CarmelFest Parade, “Katie participated in the 2008 parade after she was crowned Miss Indiana. We are delighted that she is returning to the festival to appear in this year’s parade.” 

Katie Stam grew up in Seymour, Indiana on her parent's dairy farm. She is the youngest of four children. She attended the University of Indianapolis where she studied Communications.  At the age of 22, Katie became the first Miss America from Indiana. She traveled over 250,000 miles during her year of service in 2009.  As Miss America, Katie served as the National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network visiting dozens of children’s hospitals and raising funds for the 17 million children who are hospitalized every year.  Katie now lives in Indianapolis, continuing her work with organizations across the nation. She is pursuing a career in broadcasting and will marry her boyfriend of 4 years at the end of the summer.

The St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana Parade at CarmelFest will take place on Monday, July 5, 2010 stepping off at 10:30 am from Carmel Drive & AAA Way and ending around noon at Carmel High School.
